While animal lovers sometimes fail to understand why not everyone loves their pooch, the reality is that your neighbors deserve a little respect when it comes to the behavior of your dog. A well trained dog can be useful both to protect property and people. In the event that your dog destroys property, or bites someone, then your California homeowners insurance may provide a level of coverage if you are sued. However this is not the best option. To keep your neighbors happy, and safe, be sure to follow a few precautions.
Even the best-behaved animals have been known to bite when provoked. Small children can be particularly at risk as they are not generally aware of dog safety issues and how to approach a dog. Ensure you have a fully-fenced yard so that your dog is secure at all times. Keep your dog on a leash when you walk it, and/or maintain close supervision. Always be careful that your dog is not likely to leap up when someone comes to the door. Some people are frightened of animals and it is important to respect this.
Should the unthinkable happen and your dog bite or attack a visitor or neighbor, then you may at least have financial compensation available for medical expenses or court costs. Consult our California homeowners insurance agents for full details.
