If you think of your body in relation to an automobile, you realize that the performance you get out is directly correlated to the maintenance you put in. With cars, you know you need to get periodic oil changes and rotate the tires every once in a while. You also need to make sure you are using the right fuel for your engine. Same thing holds true for your body.
If you do not put in the right fuel or keep up with your body maintenance, you could react sluggishly and not give the optimal performance you were hoping for. Eating foods that contain artificial ingredients or are processed excessively can lead you to crash hard. Getting daily exercise, reducing your stressors and eating right can really keep you on track. Some good foods to eat that can help keep your heart, which is like your body’s engine pumping smoothly.
Some foods that are considered heart healthy are: blueberries, raisins, chocolate, salmon, walnuts, black beans, kidney beans, brown rice, asparagus, sweet potatoes, red bell peppers, tea- black or green, broccoli, spinach…. The list goes on and on. Drinking an occasional glass of red wine can help as well. You will not be going without taste if you choose a healthy diet. Nature provides a lot of fantastic tasting foods without the need to add sugar or other sweeteners.
So the next time you are scheduling your car’s oil change, think about yourself and your own body’s machinery. Are you taking care of it as well as you are your car? Remember, you can’t trade yourself in for a newer model or open a new lease down the road. You only get one shot in this body of yours. Keep up with your health so that you can live a long healthy life.
